Ivonne Rivera-Newberry just accepted the position for Family Planning Consultant for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Her previous role was as the Assistant Director to Reno County Health Department where she oversaw all clinical operations including a prenatal program, home visiting services, family planning, STI clinic, epidemiology and case investigations, immunizations, well-child clinic, older adult services, medical records and billing. She started at the health department as a home visitation nurse, Spanish interpreter, and WIC nurse.

Ms. Rivera-Newberry was selected for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Public Health Nurse Leaders cohort 2015-2017. She helped to convene the inaugural HHS Region VII Diabetes Summit held in November 2016. She currently serves as President of the Association of Public Health Nurses, a professional organization that seeks to bring wider awareness and improvement to the practice of public health nursing.

Ms. Rivera-Newberry received a BA in philosophy from University of Florida, a BSN from Wichita State University, and is currently working on completing her MPH from University of Kansas. She is also a proud Army veteran.
